This event is in the past.
The inaugural Mt Lofty Challenge is a mass participation community bike ride open exclusively to 4,000 recreational cyclists to ride over 35km of closed Adelaide Hills roads, including up the South Eastern Freeway, closed just for this event, for the first time ever in South Australia. You'll enjoy a police escort to the bottom of the Freeway and get to ride through the Heysen Tunnel on this special occasion.
You can start and finish in the CBD, or if you want to cut out the hill climbs you can start at Summertown. There are four distance options - 80km or 60km or 50km or 30km (The standard route to Mt Lofty, starting and finishing in the CBD is 50km). There is even an Escape Route, so you can by-pass the challenging climb to Mt Lofty but still get to ride up the Freeway.
